Mortenson Canada secures $146 million wind energy project in Canada
Published: 15-Mar-2010
Mortenson's Renewable Energy Groups have secured the Gosfield Wind project at Ontario in Canada.
Under this contract, Mortenson will construct the 50 megawatt Gosfield Wind Project in southwestern Ontario, an agricultural region often referred to as the Canadian ‘Banana Belt’.
This project marks the fourth wind power project that Mortenson will construct in Canada. The Renewable Energy Groups constructed both Phase I and Phase II of the Prince Wind project in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario for Brookfield in 2005-2006.
The Gosfield Wind Project calls for the installation of 22, 2.3 megawatt Siemens wind turbines with 101 meter rotors, currently the largest rotor available in the North American market. This is their first opportunity to self-perform the installation of Siemens turbines. The total cost of the project is CAD149 million ($146 million). The project was mobilized in January 2010 and is scheduled for completion by September of 2010.
